Flaked Flooring For Nashville Floors

Michael Stewart
Hello everyone and welcome to the TKO concrete podcast. My name is Mike Stewart. And today we have Zach, who is the concrete expert for us on the show. And we’re going to be talking about flake flooring is that what’s called Zach?

Zach Allman
Yep, so we call them flaked floors. What they essentially are is basically two coats of epoxy. And on the second coat, you’ll get a coating of some quarter inch polymer chips, you can get them in just about any color that you’d like. Or you can even get some they’re a little bit more specialty that look almost like fake granite stone. And they’ve become very popular. And a lot of people are doing them in car car dealerships, garages. Really, a lot of outdoor patios have started to use them, they’ve got a little bit of texture to them. So if they get rain, snow, sleet, whatever you may have, they keep a little bit of grit to them, so people tend to not fall on them. And they get a fake aggregate look almost if you do certain colors.

Michael Stewart
Wow. So so you can actually have a solid chip or flake additive to the to epoxy and make a really nice decorative looking floor. That is it good inside or outside.

Zach Allman
They really they work inside or outside main use nowadays has been indoors. But here recently with the new new designs that they’ve got, they can make it almost look like an aggregate driveway. And you don’t necessarily want to use them for your driveway. But for patios and back porches. If you’d like new concrete to match your driveway, that’s a good way to do it without having to do aggregate which is rough on your feet, they usually fall apart and leave a lot of loose stone and everything else out all over your patios,

Michael Stewart
is it a pretty quick process to have this type of flooring put in.

Zach Allman
Normally, with residential work, it’s a three day process, it always depends on how much square footage you have. The first day is really the longest day that’s when the guys come in, they grind your concrete in order to get a good bond between the concrete and the epoxy itself. And then the second day that would come in, do that second coating of epoxy with a solid color and broadcast those polymer flakes on top of the coating. And then the third day they sweep everything up, clean up all the loose flakes leaf blow everywhere, that way, they don’t leave a bunch of flakes in your yard or driveway. And then and then they’ll vacuum up any loose bits. And they’ll put the top coating on three days is typically the average work time it takes to do a flake floor, and you’re able to walk on it by the fourth day.

Michael Stewart
So anyone who’s interested in getting a flight flooring, do you come out when you make an estimate and have show examples of the different colors and the different types of flooring that what it looks like? I mean, it’s, I’m a customer, and I don’t know what I want, how do you help me choose what I get.

Zach Allman
So I typically carry a book with me, that’s all the available flakes that I can get. And then I’ve actually made a few sample boards that I like to keep in the truck when I do free estimates. And it’ll give you about five or six different options as well as the different broadcast options that we offer. Some people like a full broadcast, which is where the flooring is completely coated in the flakes. And that’s all you see other people they just kind of want a sprinkle of the of the flakes. So you can see the solid color epoxy beneath it. There’s a different ton of different options, tons of different colors. So I try to keep those guys on me at all times. If a customer like a call me out, I can easily show them different different colors, different broadcast options, the texture of it, they can get a feel of it with their hands in production. And and it’s a lot easier to sell it that way. Once you’re able to see it up in person and feel how it’ll feel on your fee on your car. How durable it is. It helps us a ton.

Michael Stewart
Well, if folks want that I know you have a special phone number that goes right to you. How would people get in touch with you if they want to talk to you about a flake floor.

Zach Allman
I like to give everybody my cell phone number. It’s 615-289-5717 That way I’m quick to respond. I’m quick to take a look at your floor and I’m always happy to do it. We do free estimates. I’m not in the business to get every single job but if I can try to I’ll will.

Michael Stewart
Well that sounds great folks, if you need flake flooring, TKO here in Nashville is the place to call and the folks to talk to to find it to get this new type of epoxy. Well I don’t know if it’s new or not. It’s regard it’s new to me so that’s why I’m saying it’s new. This this type of flooring, which is called flaked flooring, and until next time, we’ll see you for the TKO podcast
